Types of home elevators
Use of home elevators have increased manifold over the years. Some of the these advanced home elevators have important safety features like emergency brakes, interlocks on doors, station control systems, emergency lowering or stop, in-cab alarms, emergency brakes, call button with an in-use indicator, interlocks on doors, emergency lights, key-locks and telephone jacks.
Hydraulic elevator is the most common type of elevator as it is considered safe during emergencies. This system can be lowered manually and its machine room is situated in the foundation room of the house.
Overhead winding drum is another type of home elevator that requires no machine room and so they are called green elevators.
Next type is the traction or electric elevator. Its design makes it unsuitable for earthquake prone areas. A counterweight enables the cab to remain suspended in the shaft.
Last type of home elevator is the pneumatic lift elevator. This elevator can hold maximum two people.
